Hedonism & the Hollow Heart
Post Malone — “Rich & Sad” | Lyrics & Longing
“All this stuntin’ couldn’t satisfy my soul.
Got a hundred big places, but I’m still alone.”
"Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure… But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless — like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere."
Hedonism = living for maximum pleasure.
When Post Malone shared these words, he wasn’t just flexing another verse.
He was confessing a truth most of us try to hide. That’s the cry of a man who has it all.
Money. Houses. Fame. Power. Women. Possessions.
And yet he admits — out loud for the world to hear — that none of it satisfies.
He’s rich, but sad.
Surrounded by things, yet alone.
For some, Rich & Sad isn’t just a song — it’s a mirror.
Because the more we chase pleasure, the more we find it leaves us empty.
Hedonism promises joy but delivers hollowness.
Pleasure fades. Possessions lose their shine. And success grows hollow.
Solomon said it first, long before the rap charts:
"Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure… But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless — like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere. "
The irony is brutal.
If satisfaction was found in “more,” then the richest people in the world would be the happiest.
But songs like this — and headlines we’ve all seen — prove otherwise.
Here’s where Jesus interrupts the cycle:
“But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
The Gospel twist is simple:
There is a soul satisfaction money can’t buy and fame can’t steal.
There is a hope that doesn’t fade when the lights go down.
Not found in “more.”
Not found in “success.”
Found in a Savior who knows what it’s like to be lonely, and who meets us there.
Even when you feel empty. Even when you feel alone.
Your story isn’t over.
There’s hope. There’s help. There’s healing — Find it here:
Jesus: a man of sorrows, acquainted with our deepest grief.
